Algerian refugees were the people who set the fire that burst on Monday in Southern Bulgaria, near the Turksih border, Bulgarian Interior Ministry announced.
The 7 migrants admitted they have started the blaze because they wanted to attract attention in order to be found as quickly as possible since two of them felt sick and needed medical assistance.
The fire they set turned into a wild one, engulfing dry grass, bushes and close to 600 acres of mixed deciduous and coniferous forest. It has been fully extinguished.
55 illegal immigrants in 7 groups have been intercepted and detained in the last 24 hours on the Bulgarian-Turkish border by the border authorities of the Elhovo Directorate.
