The Nampally police are likely to take action against two employees of the AP State Wakf Board (APSWB) posted as assistant wardens at an orphanage, Anees-ul-ghurba, for allegedly beating children and asking adolescent orphan girls to leave the home once they attain puberty.
The matter came to light during chairman of State Minorities Commission Abid Rasool Khan's visit to the orphanage on Friday. Khan raised the matter with Nampally police and a case is expected to be registered against the employees, Shakir Ali and Mohiuddin, on Saturday.
The chairman told TOI that he visited the place along with officials of Wakf Board after receiving complaints about mismanagement at the orphanage which houses 90 inmates.
"The children told me that the assistant wardens would beat them up and hide their belongings. The orphanage gets sufficient funds, but it is being mismanaged. I have asked the police and the CEO of Wakf Board, who was also present, to take action against the duo," he said.
Khan said he had also learnt that the orphanage management had been asking girls to leave the orphanage after they attained puberty. "Most girls present were aged 11 and below. When I enquired about the whereabouts of the older girls, the management could not give me any satisfactory reply. They had no records of where they had gone," he said.
