The Des Plaines City Council denied plans from a Bosnian Muslim group to open a religious center in town, the Daily Herald reports.
The petition asked to change the general manufacturing zoning of the parcel to institutional zoning, which permits houses of worship. The building is presently vacant, but was previously home to an insurance company.
After the council’s 5-3 vote to deny the zoning change, representatives from the American Islamic Center vowed to file a lawsuit again the city for the denial.
A CITY HAS THE RIGHT TO DICTATE WHAT AREAS SHOULD BE ZONED FOR WHAT PURPOSE SO WHY ARE MUSLIMS THREATENING TO FILE LAWSUIT?
