The Ministry of Tourism and Culture ordered a controversial painting on display in an art exhibition here, to be withdrawn immediately because it was found to affect the sensitivity of Muslims.
It minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the painting was not listed as an exhibit to the minsitry but displayed without reasonable cause although the organisers knew it would trigger religious controversy.
"At first sight, I found the painting offensive and the organisers had no reason to display it.
"Yes, they were given permission to hold the exhibition but not to display the painting which was allegedly slipped into the exhibition without our knowledge," he told reporters after launching the golden jubilee anniversary of the National Museum at the National Museum here Saturday.
Nazri said some people had lodged police reports about the painting.
